Modern Movie Success Mantras

Cinema has always been a good barometer for the generation it represents. Given the current climate, there are some sure shot ways in which movies (big or small) can actually make an impact on the audience and turn into unexpected hits. Here are some simple ways movies can be overnight hits –

Diversified Cast – Whitewashing has fortunately become an instant failure trick and unless a movie wants severe backlash from fans, it should avoid doing so. The success of small screen ventures like Orange is the New Black can, in part, be attributed to how diversified its cast is, representing everyone.

Strong Female Characters – With the glorious wave of feminism that has swept the nation, strong female characters have become the norm. Whether it is “Gone Girl” or Mad Max:Fury Road”, good female characters have become more real and less Mary Sue. These are characters that can be negative or positive without being cheesy and one-dimensional. It is something Jim Dondero would like to see more of.

LGBTQIA – It is no longer “funny” to have homophobic comments and jokes in a movie or TV show. Gone are the days when such things made the audience laugh. Now, such a laughter can only be achieved by having a “laughter track” in the background. With the amazing steps the world has taken for the LGBTQIA community, it is important to have some diverse sexualities in a movie to make it click.

With these new age movie mantras, hopefully, the future will have less “American Sniper” and “American Pie” and more “Brokeback Mountain” and “Gone Girl”.

Ron Perlman Wants Hellboy 3 to Happen, Frowns On Crowdfunding

Ron Perlman wants to reprise his role in Hellboy before he gets too old to join the project.

The actor said as much in an interview with Digital Spy during the recent 55th Festival De Television De Monte-Carlo. Perlman confirmed there is no news about the status of a third installment in the franchise, but that he would really love to do the film.

Perlman said that if the project does not “happen sooner rather than later” he’ll be playing the role “out of a wheelchair.”

The first two films in the Hellboy franchise, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, were not successful enough at the box office to justify a studio funding the production for a third film.

There has been some discussion of turning to crowdfunding to raise the funds to make the third chapter of the Guillermo del Toro triology. Stephen Murray CCMP Capital thinks that could actually work.

While Perlman confirmed the plot of the movie is already set, he expresses his frustration with the delay of starting filming. The actor also voiced his opinion about crowdfunding. Perlman doesn’t “feel it’s the fans job to fund a movie,” and is hesitant about going that route.

The Hellboy flicks are based on Mike Mignola’s comics which follow the adventures of the titular character and his rag-tag team as they save the world from evil and the forces of darkness.

Support for Caitlyn Jenner Cross Party Lines

Former Olympic Decathlon gold medalist Bruce Jenner is no more. Now, the athlete has transgendered into a woman by the name of Caitlyn Jenner. When the announcement was first made months ago, some political pundits speculated whether Jenner might become the face of the transgender movement for social acceptance and equality. Well, if the reaction on Twitter is any indication, it appears to that Jenner has accomplished that feat; Caitlyn Jenner’s first tweet as a woman secured over one million followers within the first four hours. In fact, it set the Guinness-world record for the fastest time to obtain a million followers. The previous record holder was Barrack Obama at five hours, as Adam Sender almost instantly followed him.

Jenner’s support has also crossed party lines. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, put out a statement saying that he accepts Jenner as a woman. Senator Lindsey Graham, also a presidential candidate, tweeted that he has not walked in Jenner’s shoes. As such, he can only show respect for her decision and hopes she has found peace in her life. Graham made it clear that his presidential campaign openly accepts Jenner. Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen also tweeted her support of Jenner. In Rep. Ros-Lehtinen’s case, the plight of the transgender community is particularly personal given that her son transgendered into a woman. Since that time, she has become a tireless advocate of the LGBT community’s fight for equality.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Treatment for Fibromyalgia

Researchers at the Rice University in Israel have discovered a promising new treatment for women who suffer with fibromyalgia. A regimented treatment in hyperbaric oxygen chamber has shown great results in relieving pain and other symptoms of those with fibromyalgia.

A clinical trial was conducted with almost 50 women who have fibromyalgia participated. The women completed two months of hyperbaric oxygen treatments each and had brain scans before and after their treatment to map and track their brain pain receptors. The disease targets how the brain interprets pain and 70 percent of those who participated in the trial showed improvement and significant changes in their brain activity.
Fibromyalgia is a discriminatory disease which targets women. The symptoms are vague and transient, often making diagnosis a long and difficult process. Most fibro patients like those at Amen Clinics have been told the pain was all in their heads at least once by the medical community while on their quest for a right diagnosis. Since over 90 percent of those who have the disorder are women, many docotrs refuse to even recognize fibromyalgia as an actual physical disorder.Validation and new treatment options bring a certain degree of relief and a ray of hope to those who suffer from the disease.
Hyperbaric oxygen chambers expose users to pure oxygen which puts more oxygen into the bloodstream and ultimately into the brain. Often used to treat burn victims and embolisms.

Avoiding the Dreaded Americanitis

Does the everyday hustle and bustle have you stressed out? Are you constantly straining to regain control over your life? Do you daily activities borderline OCD? If you’re feeling the stress of balancing out your life, you could be suffering from Americanitis.

This old school reference comes back from the 19th century and was thought to be caused by nervous exhaustion from the hustle and bustle of everyday American life. In comparison to Europe and other countries, we as Americans like Brad Reifler work longer days, have less vacation time, and force ourselves to work later into our lives for shorter retirement as seen here. Since the global recession, most people consider themselves lucky to even have a job and have been expected to work harder and take on more responsibility to make up for unfilled positions due to cutbacks. So how can you forget your anxieties? Luckily, there are a number of relaxing activities that can help the average American forget their worries. The main point to stress is that you take some time out of your day to use these techniques, even if you have to force it. Meditation is a great relaxation technique that can take just a few short minutes to help you clear your head and ease that anxiety your feeling. Taking time every day to meditate is proven to help make participants more resilient to stress.

If that sounds too strange, simply take a few minutes away from your desk to concentrate on your breathing. By doing this you can counter that stress by lowering your blood pressure and heart rate. Retired Engineer Left Generous Inheritance to Seven Friends

Upon his passing due to cancer in 2013, it was discovered that retired engineer, Roger Brown had willed 3,500 Euros between his seven buddies. Along with the generous amount, he also left a request that they travel together immediately following the event. Brown had been known among his friends as an outdoorsman and especially enjoyed travelling to Vivian Arms in Swansea. He was also an athlete who participated in numerous bicycling road races and played Rugby for the Dunvant Rugby Football Club. Brown’s seven friends decided to use the money on a group trip to Berlin. The friends reported that they had a very enjoyable time of it and that Brown was in their thoughts throughout the duration of the trip.

The friends figured that Brown probably got the idea from their numerous stays in hostels and travels to areas local to Swansea. That’s what Ivan Ong is assuming. Each had known Brown for over a total of four decades, and that includes through Facebook.

Converted Factory in Newark May Change the Face of Farming

When most of us think of farms, we naturally get visions of long fields of crops that industrial sized tractors are traversing on some massive expanse of flat land in Kansas or some such place. That is certainly in the mind of Jason Halpern. There is a new type of farming starting to take root, and it could change the location and appearance of it forever. A so-called “vertical farm” is being housed in what was a factory in Newark, New Jersey. Just as tall buildings make use of height to fit more people per square foot for residences and offices, this farming facility offers 75 times more production per square foot than traditional field farming. It uses a type of hydroponic system for growing the crops that is said to use 95 percent less water than field farming.

This method of farming creates numerous opportunities for urban renewal across the country. This one facility in Newark will provide 100 jobs to locals. The water conservation of this farming method should make it of interest to states like drought stricken California. Despite water restrictions going into effect in that state, agriculture is not affected by them, and it is the single biggest user of water. This AeroFarms facility in Newark is the largest vertical farm in the world at 69,000 square feet and will grow 2 million pounds of fruits and vegetables every year. Cities around the country should be keeping an eye on how this operation fares as an idea for poor, rundown sections in their own communities.

If You Wanted To Purchase A $22 Million Diamond, You Missed Your Chance

On Tuesday of this week, bidding for a very large flawless diamond began through a Sotheby’s auction in New York City. If you had been interested in purchasing it, you should have moved faster as it was sold within three minutes of the auction’s start for a reported price of $22.1 million.

The perfect 100-carat diamond was mined by De Beers and is said to have taken more than a year to be cut and polished. “This diamond is exceptional in every sense of the word, and we were thrilled to see it achieve such a strong result,” said Lisa Hubbard, of Sotheby’s International Jewelry Division.

“The color is whiter than white, it is free of any internal imperfections and so transparent that I can only compare it to a pool of icy water,” the head of Sotheby’s Jewelry division said. The diamond is one of only six flawless diamonds weighing at least 100-carats sold in auctions over the last 25 years and was part of a “magnificent jewels” collection at the Sotheby’s auction on Tuesday. More than $65 million worth of jewels were sold in this week’s auction.

Two years ago a pink diamond known as the Pink Star set the world record for price, selling for $83 million at an auction in Geneva. That was a pretty big sum for Brian Torchin to understand.

Bookings For Tunisia Fall 60%

Bookings for Tunisia are down 60% since March 18 after the attack of Bardo in Tunis, according to the sources of travel agencies in France, stated on Monday by the president of their union, the SNAV. This is certainly alarming, even to those like Dan Newlin who are not affiliated with the area.

“Tourism industry has been in big time trouble after the attack in Bardo” recognizes input Jean-Pierre Mas, president of the National Union of Travel Agents. “Even if the number of requests for repatriation was insignificant and that of the cancellation, postponement or change of destination remained low, reservations, since March 18, down sharply: -60% compared to the same period of 2014 “, he continues.

This fall is all the more important, he says, that “it was present before the Bardo attack to a significant recovery in Tunisia for the spring and summer.” Jean-Pierre Mas recognizes that while showing “solidarity with Tunisia”, it is easier to “buy Charlie Hebdo than booking a holiday in Tunisia, it is not the same price, it’s not the same commitment.”

“The fact remains that the most effective way to express solidarity with Tunisia is to go to Tunisia,” he concludes. However, the overall fall is hurting the tourism industry in Tunisia and it may be a big time loss for the economy of the country in a long run.
